Welcome

I was introduced to the idea of a writing journal in a workshop that I took. I found it very useful to track progress and keep my thoughts straight during the first book. I've transferred the journal here in case anyone wants to follow my progress.

A little bit of this and that

8/11/2019 – Started on chapter five. Only got about 900 words in before I got too tired to write.

8/13/2019 – Continued work on chapter five. Completed another 500 words.

Other activities this week. Completed four sessions of the Margaret Atwood master class. Printed out one of the suggested writing tools that she suggested on developing character profiles. I started a bit on the profiles but need to really sit down and develop them out more. There are also a couple of additional profile items that I want to add to combine with existing profile guidelines.

Registered for the Eric Hoffer award. Registered for the BookLife award. Completed my author profile and registered for author advertising on GoodReads. Started my first ad campaign there. Researched additional contests and flagged a couple more for registration.

8/18/2019 – Today I want to finish chapter five and get a start on chapter six, if I can. I’ve got a couple of hours this afternoon and maybe a couple more after the kids go to bed.

Finished chapter five. Editing chapter three next to make some changes to support chapter seven.

Chapter Four

Saturday and I have the house to myself. My goal is to write at least one more chapter. This chapter will show life on the ranch and reintroduce Darius to Anna. Anna flirts with Darius. Cordelia will tell the story of Sillu Yoru.

Marketing Day

I had a box of bookmarks printed with the cover art and title on one side and information about where to find the book on the other side. Today, after work, I spent a couple hours driving around to local book, comic book, and game stores and talking to the owners or managers. All but one let me put a stack of bookmarks on their counter for their customers to take for free. It's one way I'm hoping to get the word out there about the book. I also visited a couple of local library branches and donated some copies for their "local authors corner".

Over the next several weeks I plan to expand the radius and take book marks to other stores throughout the MD/DC/VA area. We are also planning to take a trip to New England in October. I'll probably take a stack along with me on that trip as well and talk to proprietors in NY, NH, and VT.

Business before pleasure

Mostly this evening I’ve been reviewing and updating Facebook posts, researching library submission requirements for DC and Virginia libraries, and completing my application materials for Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi). Once I finished updating my ALLi profile and book information I posted my new badge on the website. I also checked the status of my Kirkus review and reviewed emails for a few writing contests that I entered.

So, now on to the writing. We’ll try to finish chapter three tonight. Focus shifts back to the emperor and Micah. The emperor meets personally with the commanders of some of the elite units and gives them a special mission.

Chapter One

Completed the first chapter. This book starts with the Emperor, Sharav, and Micah. It brings the emperor up to speed on the outcome of the assault on Darius & Arthengal. I also insinuate some other plans at work in Eridu and Kasha Amur, the capital of Shalanum province. A mysterious character is introduced and Micah gets a nickname. It’s a little long for a first chapter, about 2000 words, but I like the outcome so far.
